Ex-cop Luther Malone doesn't like guns and an unfortunate incident on his last Jones & Jones assignment left him with a bad leg and an attitude. Not the greatest resume for a bodyguard which is why he has to make ends meet by working as a bartender in a low-rent Waikiki dive. He's got a few quirks, too, one of which is a chilling talent for controlling and manipulating other people's auras.

Luther isn't exactly thrilled when he discovers that Fallon Jones wants him to protect a librarian named Grace Renquist who hails from some tiny town on the Oregon Coast that nobody ever heard of: Eclipse Bay. But, everyone's telling him that he really needs to do something about his attitude problem. Maybe the job and a change of scene will do the trick. Besides, he needs the work. Then he meets Grace...
