Cel - But of course.

your e-mail about the NR books. Thanks!
Cel - BTW, Cissy
has a new icon (made especially for herself).
Cel - Oh good - I
just didn't know if you had thast info or not.
Camby - What is it?
A Goddess? LOL
Cel - Let's see if
it works in the room //goddess
Cel - I guess it
works only in the main chat room.
Camby - LOL so it
IS a goddess! Too funny
Cel - It's real cool.
Camby - Did you all
chat last night?
Cel - Cissy also
did something special last night. When some of us log into the other room,
right after out name is whatever icon pic we chose. Of course, I'm
Cel - Ann is //angel
Camby - Of course.
shy - logged on.
- 10/2 at 11:08am EST
Cel - Humm - I guess
Cissy has several icons she hasn't transferred over to this room.
Camby - And I don't
buy that one about Ann. Not one bit! LOL
Cel - Hi Shy
Camby - Morning shy
shy - Morning y'all
Camby - I'm sorry
I missed the chat last night. Actually, I missed everything last night!
Konked out cold at 7pm. LOL
Cel - Shy, the goddess
icon doesn't work in this room at this time.

join in the conversation. Margy wants Cissy's goddess icon for herself

Val - good afternoon

Camby - Hey Val!
And to correct that, good evening Lore!
Lore - In Germany,
Cel
Cel - Fantastic -
Val is in England.
Camby - Oh, I love
Germany. Where in Ger?
shy - LOL then definitely
Good Evening Lore
Lore - In North Germany,
near Bremen
Val - cool nice area
Camby - Oh, I love
Germany. Where in Ger?
Cel - Stuttering
so early in the morning (for me at least), Camby?
Lore - Where in England
are you, Val?
Cel - Lore, I'm in
Northern California, USA.
Camby - Oh, I love
Germany. Where in Ger?
Camby - Oh, I love

shy - So Lore what
are you favorite JAK books?
Lore - Must be warm
there, Camby
Val - Croydon, South
London
Cel - Poor Camby,
is WebTV *stuck*?
shy - Ooops Camby
must be having big problems.
Val - Not a pretty
area but very convenient for London and the south coast
Cam - logged on,

Cel - wb Camby
Lore - shy, there
are Wildest Hearts, Absolutely Positively and Hidden Talents
shy - wb Camby
Val - good start
Cam!
Cam - Thanks. My
connection decided to quit on me.
Val - Cel have you
been getting these 100 degree temps we've been hearing about?
Lore - Val, I like
London, I'm there every year for a couble of days.
shy - Some of my
favorites.
Cam - Good start
nothing! I've been up since 3am! LOL
Cel - Up until yesterday,
Val. The weather has turned much cooler now.
shy - LOL Camby we
just thought you wanted to make sure we knew that you loved Germany
Cel - That's what
you get for going to sleep at 7 PM, Camby.
Cam - Well, that
too shy!
shy - Yeah WebTv
gives you fits for ignoring it.!
Val - brb gotta get
some tissues
Lore - I stumbled
this morning abput the JAK site, I only was searching the net for a complete
book list
shy - Did you find
it Lore?
Lore - shy, yes,
on the site was a complete list
shy - Fair warning
some of the books are hard to find even here in America
Cel - Glad you stumbled
onto todays chat then, Lore. We always have a good time.
Lore - shy, in 2
weeks I'm for vacation in florida and I'm planning to browse every used
book shop, I can find for the books I can't get here
Val - then you realise
how many you're missing and don't have a hope of ever seeing
Cel - BTW Val, I
finally found my note about Cheri's US trip. She is supposed to leave on
the 8th.
Lore - Cel, I'll
set my scheduler for the next chats
Val - where in florida
are u going
shy - Good luck.!
I hope you are lucky and find them all
Lore - Val, to Orlando
Cel - Good Lore.
shy - Then you will
have to come back and tell us so we can be envious
Val - cool i hope
to catch up with her before she goes
Cel - brb
Cam - Good time of
year for that Lore. Not as crowded as in the summer.
Val - there is a
good second hand in Kissimee
Lore - Cam, we're
every year in the middle of october in Orlando, there is an event my friend
visits every year
Lore - Val, actually
we ARE in Kissimmee, where there?
Cam - While you're
there you should check out Medieval Times. There's this Knight there, Sir
Robert.... he just sets my heart a-flutter! LOL
Camby has timed out.
Cam - At least I
think he's still there.
Lore - Cam, we've
looked at it but were so busy going to Disney, we don't make in in 4 years,
lol
Val - if i recall
it's on orange blossom trail. are u staying on international dr
Lore - Val, yes,
at the days suits
Cam - What event
Lore? If you don't mind my asking.
Cam - What event
Lore? If you don't mind my asking.
Lore - Cam, to the
paintball world cup. My friend is a paintball supplies dealer
Cam - Am I the only
one with a very slow connection this morning? Sheesh!
Cel - Mine seems
to be fine, Camby.
Cam - Paintball?
*shudder* No thanks! LOL
shy - Yeah I think
you are Camby!
Val - okay you go
down Sandlake Dr until you're at the Florida mall. Then you hang a left
to Kissimee proper - and it's round there somewhere. I think it;s called
Black Cat. And there's a thrift store next to it. You'll have to go up
the road until it's one way houses and shops separating the carriageways
then go back down, as it's on the southbound part of the carriageway
Lore - Cam, just
my opinion, but there are enough crazy people, who buy that stuff...
Cam - I know Lore.
Many of those crazy people are friends of mine. LOL
Lore - thank you
Val, just printed it, I will be there!
shy - Ok so are we
going to discuss food and JAK books?
Lore - I have got
about 20 books from JAK from a used books dealer on the net. I'm wailing
for the delivery.
Cam - Pasta Pesto!
LOL
Cheri - logged on.
- 10/2 at 11:33am EST
Lore - food?
shy - Yep my favorite
too Camby!
Cheri - Hi everyone!
Cam - Hi Cheri
Lore - Hi Cheri
shy - Hi Cheri!
Cel - Hi Cheri
Cam - Better than
a bunch of cans of tune shy!
Cam - that's tunA
shy - Which books
have you ordered Lore.
Cel - Where in the
#$%^& have you been, Cheri?
shy - LOL Yep any
day Cam
shy - Although I
do like Thai peanut butter sauce. I forgot which book that was in
Val - are they seek
her here they seek there they seek her everywhere!!
Cheri - I know, Cel...
it's been over a week and I've been having withdrawal symptoms, LOL!!!
My best friend found out she had to move, so we were apartment hunting
and moving until Wednesday. Then on Thursday I got invited to an embassy
party, so...
Val - now now Cel,
that's no way to greet the prodigal back to the fold!!
shy - So you needed
a new dress Cheri?
Cam - Deep Waters
maybe? Hmmm, can't place the peanut sauce.
Lore - uh, lets search
my printout, Adventurer, joy, Family way, test of time, coral kiss, lady's
choice, pirate, chance of a lifetime, shields lady, dangerous men and adventurous
women, everlasting love - can't find the second printout
Cheri - Well, I could
sure have used Ann's selection of cocktail party dresses!! (Not to mention
her social skills).
Val - what are you
talking about?
shy - It is in one
of the older ones before she started writing vegatirian.
Cel - Sounds like
you have been a busy girl, Cheri. Just glad you are okay.
Val - what about
Thai peanut butter sauce?
shy - I hope the
second one includes The Cowboy!!!! You have 2 of a 3 book series JAK wrote.
Cam - There was a
JAK book that had Thai Peanut Sauce in it
Cel - Are you ready
for a reading frenzy when the books show up, Lore?
shy - There were
2 topics suggested for today Val
Lore - shy, no. But
I hope to find it in a used book shop in fl
shy - ! was food
and JAK and the other was Bridal Jitters...
Val - whoops everythings
gone blank!
Lore - cel, I'm every
time ready for a reading frenzy
)
Cel - What were the
2 topics Shy - I saw about the food but nothing else.
Val - I don't know
if Cheri's had a chance to get BJ
shy - You have ordered
some great books Lore!
Cel - You are with
the right group then, Lore. LOL
Cam - Then in, was
it Hidden Talents? Anyway the one with the mail order catalog where the
townspeople contributed stuff. Some of that was food, right?
Cheri - Of course
not, Val!! (I live in a third world county, you know).
Lore - Cam, Hidden
Talents had a vegetarian curry
shy - And I didn't
figure Lore has had a chance to read it so we went with the topic every
one can comment on
Val - tee hee hee
I sure love Murder 1!
Lore - Cheri, what
3rd world country?
shy - Yes that was
Hidden talents Cam
Cam - That's what
it was! My memory isn't all that good, you know.
Cheri - Yeah, right,
rub it in Val!! See how many books I carry back for you
Cheri - Lore, I live
in Ireland and we have NO decent bookstores for romance books.
Cel - Tell them to
*eat their hearts out*, Val. LOL
Val - whoops slight
miscalculation there!! lol
shy - Cheri you should
open one!!!!!!!
We will send you books
Lore - Cheri, I get
all my books from amazon. There is an english amazon too, here they deliver
to our door.
Cam - Yeah, Robin
is trying to get rid of a lot of hers! LOL
Cel - Cheri, Lore
is in Germany.
Val - note to self:
gloat AFTER cheri comes home!
Cheri - I get a lot
from Amazon UK, but the shipping isn't cheap and the exchange rate with
sterling is bad right now.
Lore - luckily I
don't pay shipping here
Cel - BTW, Jill said
to say hi to everyone, but she has to cook and can't join us.
Cel - Why don't you
have to pay shipping, Lore?
shy - BRB
Val - Cheri do you
want me to send the package on Monday, it's all ready, but I thought you
were flying Mon.
Cel - Cheri, are
you still scheduled to leave next Friday?
Lore - Cel, no German
online bookdealer takes shipping, because here you have bookstores in every
town and they order the books from one to another day. So no one would
order books online, if you have to pay for the shipping
Cheri - Umm, I'm
actually flying out Friday, so maybe you better wait. But send me your
list, and I will see how many I can fit on the way back... I think I may
only be able to get a half-dozen or so by the time I finish grocery and
clothes shopping (WOO HOO!)
Cel - I bet that
is great for you Lore.
Val - not to mention
your own book shopping!!
shy - Ok I'm back
Cam - wb shy
Lore - Cel, yes,
but that's only for German books, US books are very expensive and you have
to wait about 4 to 6 weeks for the delivery...
Cel - Oh, that's
a different kettle of fish then, Lore. If you don't mind me asking, are
you German or a transplanted Anerican?
Lore - btw, Charmed
has arrived today. Did anyone read it?
Cel - wb Shy
Lore - Cel, German
Val - Cheri are you
ok doing a straight swap with what I listed and do you want the Linda Howard?
Cheri - That's fine,
Val. I don't think I want the Linda Howard though.
Cel - Absolutely,
Lore. Very good anthology - at least the Jayne Castle and Lori Foster were...I
haven't read the other 2 novellas.
Cam - I liked Charmed
quite a bit. And I'm not really an anthology person.
Lore - Anthology??
urgs...
shy - Charmed was
terrific Lore except for the 2nd story by Julie Beard/ It wasn't a story
line I care for.
Cel - I'm not big
on anthologies either, Cam, but sometimes that's the only way to get a
story by a fav author.
Cam - I agree shy.
Had too much of a Jude Devereaux feeling. She likes that plotline it seems.
Margy - logged on.
- 10/2 at 11:54am EST
Cel - Hi Margy
Lore - I've only
read one book from Jude Devereaux and don't like it. And I was not so short
on books to try another one.
Margy - Hello everyone...can't
stay just wanted to say hi!!! /wave
Cheri - Hi Margy
Cam - Hi Margy
Val - I'm still dubious
over the fact that the slang is all very similiar when everything's suppose
to be independent, ie there is no contact between the various colonies
that the stories are set in.
Margy - Hey, Irish...where
you been keeping yourself lately??
Val - Hi Margy
shy - Exactly Cam.
I agreed with what everyone had to say on The Romance bb
shy - Hi Margy
Cheri - Helping best
friend find new place & move, then shopping for/going to embassy party.
Margy - Sounds like
fun!!
Val - Cheri you should
copy that next time you're asked so you can just paste it in!!
shy - You mean with
JAK' s Curtain books Val?
Cheri - BTW Margy,
my JAK count is now up to eight... how's yours?
Margy - Oops, sorry...
Lore - Hi Margy
Margy - Still at
3 I'm sorry to say
Margy - Hello Lore
Cel - Too bad Marie
Laure from France and April from Turkey aren't here. We'd really have an
extensive *international* group.
Margy - I'm trying
to get through my Dara Joy books, one more Matrix and I'm home free
Val - yes Shy - in
the futuristics, she's using a lot of the same slang when the series aren't
suppose to be that connected.
shy - LOL Margy that
is no way to view good reading.
Val - Cheri have
you managed to reclaim Shield's Lady or is it still being held hostage?
Cheri - No more hostages,
in fact I have to buy something for the trip now (dh is NOT pleased).
shy - I think it
originates with the idea that all the colonist came from the same place
before they were trapped by the curtain
Margy - I don't mean
it like that, Shy
...just like to finish
one before I start another *lol*
Cam - Cheri, you're
books were held hostage by your dh? How cruel!
Val - yes but as
there soceity ev
Val - now why did
that happen I didn't press enter.
Cheri - I thought
so, Cam. Took me some hard bargaining to rescue them
Cel - Did I mention
last night that I received 3 Stephanie Laurens (Bar Cynster author) reissues
of her Mills & Boon short books?
Cam - Egads Cheri!
Hope Ryan doesn't get an idea like that in his head. LOL
shy - Sometimes the
room steals the messages Val and post them before we are ready
Cam - Cool Cel
Cel - If you have
to start hiding your shoe boxes Camby, you are in BIG trouble.
Cheri - The latest
he's telling me is to read The Economist on the plane, and not buy another
book until I set foot in America. Fortunately for me, he'll want to read
the new one himself so I can sneak off to the airport bookstore... and
get Marian Keyes' new book.
Cam - Good plan Cheri.
*Insert Mission Impossible theme music here*
Cheri - LOL Cam!!
Cel - Lore, several
of the *ladies* here get a lot of grief from their husbands (dh) or significant
others over the number of books they buy. LOL
Lore - cel, I know
that problem - I have more than 5000 books...
Cam - Speaking of,
a lot of books are gonna be available on Tuesday. Have to come up with
some sort of distraction so I can sneak them in.
Val - Anyway what
I'm saying is that as the various soceities have been cut off from each
other then customs and in particular slang becomes particular to their
circumstances. Even if it's only a couple of hundred years there is a marked
difference in languages - I mean look how much the Yanks have slid backwards
since losing the stabilising influence of their mother country??
Cheri - Wow, Lore!
How many bookcases / boxes does that take?!
Cam - 5000? She has
me beat. How about you guys?
Cel - OMG Lore. I
don't think even I have that many books and I'm a world class book buyer.
Cheri - I have 107
according to my recently updated inventory. *smug look*
Cel - Val,
MY
Cam - Gee Val, here
I was thinking how stagnated the Red Coats have become since being whipped,
not once, but twice, by us Yanks. LOL
Lore - Cheri - I
have a room for my books
normally it's
the guest room, and there IS a bed inside, but most guests prefer the sofa
in my living room
Val - yeah right
where have you hidden the rest!!
Cheri - There aren't
any more YET Val. Depending how many boxes head for the boat across the
Atlantic, I will probably double that.
Margy - Sorry guys,
I had to run and bring detante to WWIII
Val - Cam it's called
luring your opponent into a false sense of security.
Cam - What Margy?
Was that last part English? LOL
Val - At least we
turn up on time!!
Cel - The kids at
each others throats, Margy?
Val - tee hee hee
Val - Cheri do you
read any category authors?
Cam - Ah, so you're
planning a new invasion huh? LOL
Margy - You know
Camby, World War 3...
Cheri - Haven't yet,
Val.
shy - OOps has Margy
been struck by the deadly urse again
Margy - Yes, Celeste
and then add the 2 next door and you have utter chaos!
Cam - Oh, sorry.
It looked like 3 exclamation points on my screen. My bad.
Margy - 'urse!! What'd
I misspell this time *confused look*
Val - it's the urse
of the missing cs!
Margy - Yes, Val,
but at least we don't lay our guns down at tea time! *LOL*
shy - UHM I can't
promise because I have suffered from the urse all my life but I think it
is spelled DETENTE. but I could be wrong.
Margy - Oh well,
now you know why I got straight "C"s in French class...
Debbie - logged on.
- 10/2 at 12:15pm EST
Lore - One question,
JAK uses Ms. in her books. Is that Miss or Mrs?
shy - Hi Debbie
Lore - Hi Debbie
Cel - Hi Debbie
Margy - I can read
french but I'm not very good at writing it
Cheri - Hi Debbie
Cam - Hi Debbie
Val - That's how
you won by cheating - we were obeying our religious worship of the great
teapot!! Religious discrimination!!
Margy - Hello Debbie
shy - It is neither...
It
shy - LOL Val!
Val - Lore neither!!
Hi Debbie
Margy - HA!! It's
called Superior Intellect!!
Cheri - Good one,
Val!! ROFL
Cam - Um, I think
that was one of the reasons we were actually at war Val. LOL
shy - Neither am
I Margy.
Cel - Margy, Marie
Laure offered to send me a book in French, but I had to decline because
I can't read it (an here me being French and all). Sheehs
Debbie - Hi Cam and
Cheri-I am new to the chat room. I am wondering if JAK has published any
new books in the seriel romance genre?
shy - Does Charmed
count for the category y'all?
Cam - Lore, Ms. can
be used for either a single or married woman. It's more PC to use it in
contemporary books.
Margy - How embarrassing,
Celeste
Lore - And what IS
it? *wondering*
Margy - What is WHAT???
Lore - odd
shy - The abbreviatin
Ms. Margy
Val - So isn't it
against the US constitution that Religious Discrimination is not allowed?
Therefore you persecuted an area that you were suppose to be fighting for
- hence you broke your own laws!!
shy - Yep it is Lore
Margy - Ok, I got
IT!! *LOL*
Cam - Ahem Ms. Val.
The Constitution didn't come into existence until 1789.
shy - Yeah but they
weren't our laws at the time Margy
Cel - Debbie, as
Shy mentioned, I suppose the novella in the CHARMED anthology could be
considered a category book.
Val - Yeah but it
was the ideal of the constitution that you were fighting your brethen and
benefactors about.
Lore - I hate it
to leave, but I have Theatre tickets for this evening and in 1 hour I must
be there - when is the next chat?
Cel - To my knowledge,
JAK doesn't write any new category books any more.
Debbie - I have never
heard of the Charmed Anthology. What is the story line? And what is the
debate about the constitution concerning?
shy - No we shouldn't
wanted the right to decide for ourselves what laws we wanted to enact.
Val - It's called
getting a rise out of the colonials!!
shy - Next Friday
night Lore at 10:00 our time.
Val - either that
or generally during week days 1pm EST
shy - It is probably
sometime in the middle of the night for you.
Cheri - Too late
for us, Lore!! But the Saturday chats are every other week.
Cam - You're just
still bitter over that Boston Tea Party. LOL
Cel - Lore, the next
Saturday JAK chat should be in 2 weeks.
shy - The next Saturday
morning chat is in 2 weeks.
Cheri - Come on Val,
that should surely be 6:00pm GMT!!
Val - Shy wouldn't
it have been consistant though no to break the laws you wanted in the first
place?
Lore - that's 4 am
for me - but I'm an early bird - see you next saturday morning
Val - Yeah Cam look
at all that good tea you wasted. AND you never payed for the breakages!!
Debbie - When is
the next Chat with JAK?
Cel - Lore, their
is another chat room called The Romance Reader and people chat most everyday
starting about 1:30 PM Eastern time.
shy - Ok Bye Lore
Val - Yeah Cheri
most people do seem to be turning up at 6pm (if at all)
Cam - Bye Lore!
Debbie - When is
the next Chat with JAK?
Cel - Bye Lore
Good talking with you.
Lore - OK, Macbeth
is waiting see u - and I try the romance readers chat.
Lore - logged off.
- 10/2 at 12:25pm EST

Val - cya Lore
Debbie - Thanks and
I'm out of here.
Cel - Bye Debbie
Cam - Bye Debbie!
shy - True and do
you know how much England owed us for WW 1 and WW II and never paid
Val - cya Debbie
shy - Bye Debbie
Debbie - logged off.
- 10/2 at 12:26pm EST
Cheri - brb - got
to work on dinner.... Bye Debbie
Cel - brb
Val - Actually we
are paying via the use of several air bases the US have around the UK.
Margy - Look out...Mary
Poppins' is on the warpath!! *LOL*
Val - And the only
reason you guys still had money was cos as always you turned up late -
and then tried to claim the glory!!!
Val - too right watch
out for the umbrella!!
Cam - Unh-uh Val.
America leases that land. It's not free.
Cel - Please, please
ladies, let's not start World War 3 in this chat room.
Margy - I gotta go
guys...my hellions are running amok...duck here comes the brolly
Val - Yes it leases
the land but not at market rates. Althouh the leases are up this year!!
Cel - Bye Margy
shy - And in good
will! Lots of countries owed the U>S. for the 2 world wars and we forgave
their debts in the interest of world peace. There were only 2 countries
that ever paid their debt and 1 was Norway. I don't remember the other.
Cam - Yikes Margy!
Good luck. Bye!
Val - hey I'm not
doing badly considering how outnumbered I am!!
shy - Bye Margy
Cam - Blame Parliament
for that Val. LOL
Val - cya Margy
Cel - That's true,
Val. LOL
Margy - Bye all...you
guys play nice....Toodley Pip, Mary Poppins
Margy - logged off.
- 10/2 at 12:31pm EST
Cam - Toodley Pip?
LOL I love it!
Val - that's why
she calls me Mary Poppins!
Val - I imagine the
other would've been Sweden - considering their taxation system they're
the only ones who could afford to.
shy - Maybe but I
don't think so. It was someone surprising at least to me....
Stacey - logged on.
- 10/2 at 12:34pm EST
Val - Anyway did
anyone else notice that JAK uses unrealistically similiar societies in
her futuristics, even though she doesn't want to do a major series around
one area?
shy - Hi Stacey
Cam - Hi Stacey
Stacey - Hi
Cel - Say Val, does
the UK have an annual fee charged for each TV owned, like Ireland does?
Val - hi Stacey
good timing.
Cel - Hi Stacey
shy - I am trying
to think what the similiarities are Margy.
Val - yes - it's
about £180 for colour I think.
Cel - Yes Val, I
noticed the similiarities, but they really didn't bother me.
Stacey - I just got
home from work //jump
Val - Shy are you
by chance calling me Margy!!!!!!!!
shy - Didn't both
societies have gellies(sp) or ices
Stacey -
didn't work
Cheri - back... Hi
Stacey
shy -
Yep I am Val.
Stacey - wasn't it
jeyy ice?
Cel - Statey, several
of the newer icons haven't made it to this room yet.
Val - Mainly it is
the language - which gives me a feel of being very similiar.
Stacey - Hi Cheri
(that was supposed to be Jelly ice
shy - Yes Jelly ice...
Cel -
sorry Stacey for the misspelling of your name.
Val - and also the
reference to Harmonics or Harmony
shy - Sorry about
that Val
Val - Shy //slap
wristies
Val - brb
shy - But Harmonics
were in Sweetstar Fire.. It makes sense that they may have ended up on
a world that was once inhabited by Harmonics.
Stacey - No problem,
Cel.
shy - Properly chastised
Val
shy - Oh and Sweet
Star Fire is not a curtain book per se.
Cel - Stacey, when
is your brother in law coming back to bring you the cable/power cord for
your scanner?
shy - OK y'all Am
I in the dog house?
Cel - Why Shy - Val
posted brb, so I'm sure she hasn't seen your posts.
Stacey - Cel, I have
the power cord now. He forgot the CD to install it.
Cel - Oh, that's
great Stacey. LOL]
Val - huh chastised
about what?
Cel - Stacey, you
did get my email didn't you with the AIM screen names and email addies?
Cam - brb
shy - Calling you

Stacey - Cel,I'm
going to see if I can find the company's web site. Maybe they can help.
Ann - logged on.
- 10/2 at 12:45pm EST
Val - Just don't
do it again!! lol
Ann - logged on.
- 10/2 at 12:45pm EST
Cel - You know, I
don't recall getting a CD with my scanner.
Cheri - Hi Ann
Cel - Hi Ann
Cheri - I had one
with mine, Cel. It had the driver software on it.
shy - Hi Ann
Cel - How's work
going, Ann?
shy - Working hard?
Ann - Hi ladies!
Val - Shy that's
the question, has JAK gone back to the Sweet Starfire world without realising?
Stacey - Hi Ann
Cel - Maybe I better
check my CDs then and see if I have one, but forgot. LOL
Ann - Well, at the
moment, I am eating lunch Shy
Work is
going as well as possible on a Saturday Cel.
Val - Hi Ann
Stacey - Cel, I found
the e-mail. Thank you
. My b-i-l thought
I might be able to install it without the cd....
Cel - How long are
you planning to stay at work today, Ann?
Cheri - It's possible
if Windows (or whatever) already has the drivers, Stacey.
Ann - Until the spread
is done (or mostly done) Cel. Propbably unitl about 4 or 4:30.
shy - I then she
did it deliberately. By putting real people (or what would have been wolves
in a hamonic world) not Harmonics on a Harmonic world.
shy - That is think
Gee whiz
Val - I think you
should have a directory called 'Twain' and 'Twain_32' these relate to scanner
drivers
Ann - Which story
is that SHy? In the CHARMED anthology?
Cam - okay, I'm back.
Hi Ann!
Ann - Hi Cam!
Cel - wb Camby
Val - But if it was
deliberate then it would be less confusing if a mention to the link was
made. It's disconcerting otherwise. I like science fiction a lot - and
inconsistancies are annoying.
Val - wb Cam
Stacey - Cheri, my
computer wouldn't install it. They tried everything (except the CD)
Stacey - wb Camby
Stacey - Thanks,
Val. I'll check it out.
Cam - Thanks guys
shy - Yes Ann! VAl
thinks the worlds are very similiar with the flower books and Sweetstar
fire even though they are supposed to be separate.
shy - WB Cam
Val - whoops those
dir are in the windows dir
Stacey - Val, I have
windows 98
Ann - Well, it did
remind me of Sweetstar Fire, Shy.
Stacey - brb
shy - I know because
of the mention of Harmonics. I am just wondering if JAK has created a world
where she is having the Harmonic world excavated
Val - My feeling
on futuristics - particularly if you're writing either a series or something
that has been separated from other previous written about civilisations
is that it should be consistant (btw this is how I started the discussion
about US v England)
Cel - Everyone sure
got quiet all of a sudden.
Ann - *dang! Dennis
just saw me for teh first time all AM, and he's coming this way w/ a file*
Ann - brb ...
Cheri - Having read
only one flower book and none of the others, I thought I'd keep quiet
Cel - LOL Cheri On
top of everything else, you haven't read that many JAK books.
Stacey - I haven't
read Sweetstar Fire
Val - No prob with
that as Sweet Starfire has space travel. The Flower colony doesn't - therefore
there terminology shouldn't appear in other futuristic books.
Ann - (back)
Val - Get it Stacey
it's my fav futuristic.
Stacey - wb Ann
Cheri - Hope that
file wasn't for you, Ann!!
Cel - It's been so
long since I've read Sweet Starfire, I can't even remember th story line.
Stacey - I have it,
Val
It's in the pile
shy - But at one
time The Flower Coloney did have space travel That is how they got to New
Seatle.
shy - Bring it to
the top Stacey. It is a great book
Ann - Well in SSF,
I got teh impression we were only seeing a slice of the world. There were
references to places and things long buried, or not yet explored
shy - Ok this will
be hard to explain and I may be giving Jayne more credit than she deserves.
Ann - I had teh impression
The Flower Colony could acheive spce travel, they just couldn't get back
through the curtain.
Val - Yeah, but they
had been isolated for over 200 years. Linguistics amongst over things change
a lot over that period of time. That's why there's a saying that the US
and UK are divided by a common language. The US in particular do not understand
UK slang.
pink ants - logged
on. - 10/2 at 1:01pm EST
shy - Exactly Ann.
We don't get a firm connection to the Harmonic world because to do so would
be to reveal more about it than the h/h in BJ know.
Ann - *the file WAS
for me, I told him to go away until Monday Stacey. I am working on a specific
project here today*
shy - Hi Pink Ants.
Stacey - Hi Pink
Ants
Cel - Hi pink ants
pink ants - logged
on. - 10/2 at 1:01pm EST
Cheri - Val, the
only reason UK understands US slang is all the imported TV shows...
Cam - Hi pink
pink ants - hello
everyone!
Cheri - Hi pink ants!
Ann - hi pink ants!
shy - But Bridal
Jitters and The Flower books are connected in that they are both descendants
from earth.
Stacey - Good for
you Ann
pink ants - are you
talking about linguistics?
Ann - Hey, Val, I'll
be asking you questions later about UK slang. Now that the new VP of claims
is from England, and the new CEO is from Austrailia (originally from England)
Val - Ann very possible
with SSF and that BJ could be on the same planet, but if so which planet
do you think they are on?
shy - Yes Linguistics
as it relates to New Seatle(Flower books) and Bridal Jitters.
pink ants - really?
that's interesting! though i still have not read bridal jitters. in what
way are you talking about linguistics? like the new words that are created?
Val - Cheri I'm aware
that the reason we know more US shows is cos we're more cosmopolitan!!
But it still shows that by only being divided by an ocean for 200 years
with contact between countries that language and culture vary considerably.
shy - I think they
are on the home planet of the herione from Sweet Star fire. 100's of years
after the Harmonics died out.
Val - sure no probs
Ann
Ann - Val, I think
they are on the same planet as teh Flower Colony. There are numerous references
in teh FLower books to "unexplored areas" and I got the impression those
areas are quite vast, so it is possible they can be on teh same worls without
contact w/each other. That would account for the similiarites, but no direct
references.
shy - LOL Ann and
I think they are on a whole different planet
Ann - I definitely
agree w/ Shy about the time line (110's of years)
Cel - Yes Shy, I
am thinking a different planet also.
Stacey - brb
Ann - Yes, well....
that's the cool thing about reading Shy. We can read the same book, draw
diferent conclusions about the world discribed, and both be right!
shy - LOL True Ann
Stacey - i'm back
Cel - wb Stacey
shy - Ok to explore
this more. Both societies consider marriage important.
Val - That's what
I thought you were going for. Does she actually call the world in BJ Harmony
- because I actually go for the culture Severance found on RennaisanceVal
- Sorry couldn't remember the name of the planet!!
Stacey - Thanks Cel
pink ants - have
a nice day, ann
Val - cya Ann
Cel - Oh wow, I just
got an email from TRR and they said therir was 125 CORRECT answers to last
weeks savvy clue. I did NOT win this drawing.
Cam - Bye Ann
Cheri - Bye Ann
Cel - Bye Ann
shy - Bye Ann.
Ann - (I want to
know what ya'll finally decide about this Shy & Val.)
Stacey - Bye Ann
Ann - logged off.
- 10/2 at 1:12pm EST
Cheri - Well, time
for me to go too. I hope to be back for Monday's "lunch" chat. Bye
Cam - Bye Cheri
Stacey - Bye Cheri
Val - No prob with
that Shy - some customs particularly if set down in a charter are usually
adhered to quite rigorously
Cel - I think I'm
going to have to go back and reread Bridal Jitters to really refresh my
memory.
shy - Bye Cheri
Val - cya Cheri,
have a good weekend
Cheri - logged off.
- 10/2 at 1:13pm EST
Cel - Bye Cheri
Val - BJ if I remember
rightly has space travel or I definitely remember an impression of space
travel.
shy - But in one
the you had to have agency marriages that lasted forever and the other
you had a covenant marriage or a convience marriage BTW there were convience
marriages in Crystal Flame.
Val - yep Trade Marriages
shy - Yep they came
from another planet and got stuck on the one there are living on like the
Flower's book culture did.
Stacey - I can see
I need to do a lot of reading & re-reading (I haven't read Crystal
Flame yet either)
shy - Crystal Flame
is my favorite of all the future books Stacey
Val - But to go on
a tangent. Crystal Flame is suppose to be totally away from everything
else. It is not a curtain world and is more fantasy then science fiction.
Val - lol Stacey
how many JAKs are in your pile?
shy - Val, do you
mind if I take your idea and suggest it for next Fridays chat topic? Please
Cel - Help me out
here guys, besides Sweet Starfire and Crystal Flame, what other futuristic
was by JAK?
Cam - Okay, forgive
my dimness here, but let me try to catch up here. You're saying the Harmonics,
as in SSF, were capable of space travel and came to the planet where BJ
takes place hundreds of years before BJ actually takes place, right?
Val - The 3 Flower
books.
shy - TRue. I just
thought I would mention BJ isn't the 1st time she used convience or trade
marriages.
shy - Sheild's Lady
Celeste
Cel - I thought there
was 1 more Vale (besides the 3 Flower books). Oh, thanks Shy - that's it.
(Shield's Lady).
Stacey - a lot Val
shy - Oh Yes the
Harmonics and the Wolves in particular were capable on space travel. they
made it look simple and even had trade routes through space,
Piper - logged on.
- 10/2 at 1:20pm EST
Cel - Hi Piper
Cam - Hi Piper
Piper - Hi everyone,
how's the chat going?
Val - I'm not saying
that - I now think BJ is set on Renaissance and follows on from where Severance
found Ghost relics during SSF
Stacey - Hi Piper
shy - But know I
think they no longer exist... That they didn't come to the BJ world but
that the BJ world is theirs and they the Harmonics have died out like the
Anzai
Cam - Confusing for
me Piper. LOL
Piper - Hey, how
do you get a waving hand?
shy - Hi Piper
shy - Great I think
Val - Besides BJ
is set only 200 yrs after the fall of the Curtain
Val - hi Piper
Stacey - Piper it's
// wave without the space
Cam - So Harmony
and Renaissance is the same place really?
Piper - Are we trying
to figure out what planet BJ is set on?
shy - Yes. But how
long is it set after the time of Severance?
Piper - Okay here's
my try.
Cam - I only ask
because it's been so long since I read SSF that I don't remember all the
details.
Val - Perhaps - this
is where I'm saying that JAK is not defining the futuristics very well.
She wants them to be separate but can't help but fall back to previous
scenarios.
shy - Yes we are
Piper.
Piper - Personally,
I was really disappointed JAK didn't make BJ a full length. It left me
with a lot of questions
Val - Not long, a
matter of decades if it is indeed the same world that Severance found the
relics.
Stacey - Me too,
Piper
shy - I think she
is going to get around to answering them Piper. We just have to give her
time.
Val - A teaser for
the first novel set in that colony
Piper - I don't know
if it's the same planet as SSF, but she's definitely putting them in the
same universe
shy - What is the
world called that the Harmonics lived on?
Val - what in SSF
or BJ?
Val - Clementia in
SSF
shy - My theory Piper
is that the h/h in BJ are excavating the Harmonic sociey. That it has died
out.
shy - IN SSF
shy - Thanks Val.
Pink ants - logged
on. - 10/2 at 1:28pm EST
shy - That in BJ
they live on Clementia 100s of years in the future.
shy - WB PA!
Pink ants - sorry-my
computer crashed
Cel - *white out*
Piper - I don't remember
a green crystalline structure though.
Cel - wb pink ants
Cel - brb
Stacey - wb Pink
Val - Shy the prob
with that is that just at the start of the book it say 'Harmony: Cadence
city;200 yrs after the closing of the curtain' - God my memories good!!
Val - wb pa
shy - I don't either.
But then they do think it is a graveyard.
Pink ants - thanks
i am eating nutella and crackers......it is bad because i think it is going
to be my lunch---that stuff is so addicting!
Cam - Sam and Virginia
thought that they were in a Harmonic or "alien" cemetery though.
Piper - Val is your
memory that good, or did you just look it up? <g>
Pink ants - are you
guys debating bridal jitters? or another novel?
Val - I on the other
hand think that they are excavating the remains that Severance found on
Renaissance.
pink ants has timed out.
Val - BJ, time frames
and locations!!
shy - Bridal Jitters
and its connection to the other future books PA
Val -
foiled again!
Cam - Val, do you
mean that BJ would be taking place before SSF? (Did that make sense?)
Piper - Okay, was
Renaissance the one with that they found the eggs.
Val - However, they
do use the terminilogy 'Ghosts' which is what Severance calls the aliens
who abandon the artifacts on Renaissance.
Piper - That was
supposed to be where they found the eggs and the alien spaceship.
shy - The thing is
we don't know when the curtain closed.. In SSF time frame! Assuming they
are connected.
Val - No if it's
on the same worlds as SSF then it's afterward.
Cel - *white out
again*
Piper - Why do you
think they had to come through a curtain? I don't remember any meantion
of one in BJ
Cam - Hold on, refresh
my memory please. Severance and Renaissance?
Pink ants - arg!
what if SSF? i think i am completely lost and will never be found.
shy - SEverance is
the hero of SSF and Renainsace is the world where most of the action takes
place.
Cel - SSF = Sweet
Starfile
Cel -
that should be ...Starfire
Pink ants - thanks
cel!
Val - Severance is
the hero in SSF - and he is taking heroine Cidra to planet Renaissance
for her to do investigation into the Founding Fathers. They end up in the
jungles of Renaissance and make first discovery of 'alien/ghost' artifacts.
Piper - Does anyone
remember a mention of a Curtain in Bridal Jitters? Did I miss it?
Cel - Yes, it was
mentioned Piper.
Cam - Okay, now I
remember. Thanks.
Stacey - I do Piper
shy - Wasn't it mentioned
when they were talking about convenant and convience marriages.
Piper - I don't remember
a green crystal in Renaissance either.
Val - That's the
prob JAK says the futuristics are but also not connected. ie the ones coming
up aren't directly connected to the Flowers series. However, I think there
is inconsistancy due to a similiar use of slang and terminology
Cam - The opening
scene is described as 200 years after the closing of the Curtain
Piper - Okay, your
right, now I remember. The founders felt they needed structure thus the
marriage contracts.
Cel - In fact Piper,
the first thing (in italics) on the first page of BJ, mentions ....200
years after the closing of the curtain.
Cel -
Camby
Cam - You mean like
the use of "rez" and "psi-energy" Val?
Piper - What can
I say. I got the book and devoured it, now I need to go back a savor.
Piper - That's 'and
savor it"
Val - Actually I
don't recall there being a strong emphasis on marriage in SSF Shy?
shy - Aren't the
words referring to different things in BJ and the flower books?
Piper - Personally
I wouldn't mind if it's an entirely different planet. But I would have
like more to the story. Like more info on those 'ghost' things.
Cel - Piper, I think
that is always the case with a novella....not long enough.
shy - I don't think
there is Val but there is a stong emphasis on marriage in both the Flowers
and BJ.
shy - Can I say that
in The Flower books the founding fathers were more anal than the were in
BJ
Val - yeah Cam
Cel - LOL Shy - yes,
you can say that.
Piper - I thought
in SSF there was an emphasis on marriage where she was from. Unfortunately
she just wasn't able to connect on psychic level which was favored
shy - Hello. Did
I run everyone off?
Stacey - Hi Shy
.
Cam - Nope, still
here. Just formalizing my theory. LOL
shy - Hi Stacey
Val - lol - Piper,
no objection to BJ being on a different world. However, as a futuristic
to a certain extent is suppose to be a cross between romance and science
fiction/fantasy care should be taken in respect of consistancy. If you
say that the stories are set on different worlds with a shared common ancestry
but been out of contact for at least a couple of hundred years. You can't
have both cultures using the same slang or naming things the same. It's
not consistant that's not what would've happened.
Val - no just took
time to type my theory!!
Piper - True, Val,
but then just think of all the extra slang you'd have to pick up. Quite
frankly with my memory I'm kind of glad they use similar words.
Stacey - Whiteout
Pink ants - what
do you mean by "whiteout"?
Cam - Okay, here's
my theory on slangs, and yes, I know it's way out in left field...
Piper - Wow, I guess
everyone was scared off. It's just you and me Stacey.
Val - woah where
is everyone!
Cel - I know I defintely
need to reread all the EARLY JAJ futuristics now.
shy - On the other
hand there will be similarities. For instance if you have red slimey stuff
called mud where you come from and you go to another world and find red
slimey stuff you are going to call it grease...
Cam - First, correct
me if I'm wrong here cos if I am, that blows the whole theory....
shy - That is not
going to call it grease but mud.
Val - lol true
Piper - Hey, what
happened to everyone. Were you all kicked off.
Cel - We're still
here. The names just disappear momentarily some times.
Stacey - Pink, sometimes
my screen goes blank, and I have to click update to "see" again
Val - see if Cissy
can get a little surfer man - wipe out!!
Cam - In both the
Flower books and in BJ (I think) the psychic abilities weren't there in
First Generation, when the colonists first came to the planets, right?
Val - Come on Cam,
cannons are awaiting, the tea will be avenged!!
Piper - Right, Cam!
shy - Right Cam
Piper - Well, except
for the Wolves.
shy - LOL and we
definitely need a surfer guy Val.
Stacey - Right Cam
Val - I believe so
- the same applies to the Harmonics on Clementia in SSF.
Stacey - LOL Val
Piper - And the women
who had the ability to ampliphy their power.
Val - Wolves are
called wolves because they don't have any psychic (^%$& spelling that)!
Cam - Okay, think
very farfetched here. These psychic abilities developed over time, so a
lot of what is named or believed or whatever could be developed on a sub-consious
level along with the psychic stuff on a sub-conscious level. It might appear
the same on both worlds precisely because of the shared ancestry. Pretty
far-out theory huh? LOL
Val - Piper that's
only in the Flower books. In BJ everyone has different there are no focuses,
damn is there anyone who hasn't read it yet?
shy - Yep they were
but it was not just any psychic ability it was the ability to communicate
with each other.
Pink ants - i have
not read bj yet
Piper - Wait, I thought
wolves were the ones that could cut the crystal.
Stacey - Val, I don't
think Pink has read BJ yet.
Val - so you're basically
saying that they were subconsciously brain washed to name everything the
same!!
Cam - In an abstract
kind of way Val! LOL
Piper - Sorry, I
meant a Shield, not a wolf.
Val - You been drinking
any Boston tea lately Cam?? lol
Pink ants - since
i have not read a lot of things, can i help anyone "settle" any disputes?
i woudl have a purely objective view
shy - LOL and that
is a whole other debat in how are they connected to the Shields and wether
Gryphan's ancestry were wolves
Cam - Well Val, I
could've said that the people on those planets aren't speaking English
and JAK just translates the words into their English equivalent, but that
would just be too silly, doncha think? LOL
Piper - I like that
idea better Cam!
Val - That's the
thing Piper is that on Sheild's Lady everything is name differently, indicating
to me no contact with another party written about in a different book.
Stacey - It works
for me Camby
Cam - I mean, who's
to say (other than JAK and she hasn't said) that these colonists came from
English speaking countries? Okay that's stretching it I know. LOL
Pink ants - hee,hee.
this is very amusing to watch you guys debate
Cel - Pink, you need
to get BJ read and see what YOU think.
Pink ants - i want
to read it sooo badly! but i have like mountains and mountains of work!
Piper - It wouldn't
even matter if they did Cam. After several hundred years language changes
a lot. Ask any high school student reading Shakespeare.
Val - What do you
mean not talking English - Chinese is only the most spoken language on
the World cos they have the most people. English or Spanglish is acknowledge
as THE international language though - so it stands to reason that the
lost colonies would speak a version or dialect of English - cos We Are
The Champions of The World <copyright Queen>
Val - Ah ha Piper
my point exactly!!
Pink ants - hee,hee.
u people are funny. i have actually taken several linguistic classes, so
if you need any help with that stuff, i can try to hlep as well
Piper - I thought
India had the most people.
Val - Nope Chinese
- I believe a sixth of the world's population.
Pink ants - nope--china
has the most people, but in the future, they predict it will be india
Cam - Well, the Curtain
could be the space age Tower of Babel. LOL Maybe they all got zapped when
they traveled through it! LOL This is too much fun!
Pink ants - i thought
it was one-fifth
Val - PA - I haven't
I'm just bsing!!
Pink ants - but who
really cares about the exact number anyway?
Val - it's amazing
how much you can get away with when you sound confident!!
Pink ants - hee,hee.
well val, i can actually use some more bs for my french paper here
Cam - I can argue
or debate anything.
shy - Yes but I don't
have any trouble reading things written in 1799. And the trouble I do have
is incosistencies in spelling not language.
Val - bonjour et
comment t'allez vous?
Pink ants - ça
va, et vous?
Val - What US 1799
or English 1799 - you would iro English as in court circles it was actually
a variant of French.
Piper - True Shy,
but it's only 200 years after the curtain fell, who's to say how many years
before they found the curtain and were able to use the curtain.
Cam - The basics
of a language are still the same Piper. It's the flourishes in that language
that changes over time.
Pink ants - val--what
do you mean by "iro"?
Val - in respect
of
Pink ants - ok
Pink ants - technically--english
has evolved, but when languages evolve, they die.
Cam - True Val. Same
as Gaelic isn't truly Celtic or even Scottish for that matter.
Pink ants - the lexicon
and other things has changed, though it has retained it's basic SVO (subject
verb object) order
Val - correct the
english language is a total hybrid, which is why it's so acceptable for
being an International language
Pink ants - actually,
english is a language and then there are macrodialects--like the macrodialect
of england english and american english
Pink ants - and then
within those, there are microdialects.
Val - Also the word
Gaelic has been hijacked for so many different variants of the language,
cos Irish and Welsh are also called Gaelic which i believe is not strictly
true
Pink ants - the "grammatical"
english we learn in like middle school is actually based on nebraskan english
shy - You mean like
the southern dialect PA?
Cam - No, Irish and
Welsh are Celtic, but not Gaelic.
Val - And there are
those who claim they speak English but heck if anyone can understand them
when they do (their menfolk wear cissy skirts as well
)
Pink ants - yes,
the southern dialect would be a micro dialect of american english
Piper - It's not
only the flourishes that change. Words change as well. As society changes
we lose objects and gain objects and our language reflects that.
Cam - At least our
menfolk didn't wear powdered wigs and high heels!
Piper - True meanings
behind a word get lost, evolving the word into an entirely different concept.
Cam - It's really
quite a complicated thing to describe - the differences between Gaelic
and Celtic. Most people believe they are the same.
shy - My dh was telling
me the other night about a book that said the southern dialect was the
equivalent of Gloustershire language in the 1600's. That it was stamped
out in the part of England while we southerners we retained the dialect.
Val - powdered wigs
and high heels? there go concorde!!
Cam - Well that whole
thing about society changing is a different topic of debate.
Pink ants - i only
know what i learn from my classes
Cam - LOL Val! Hahahahaha!
Piper - Of course,
written language changes slower than the spoken language. Therefore we
might still read a word one way, but when we speak it we are using it another.
Cel - And on that
last note, I'm leaving. Breakfast/lunch is calling me.
Cam - That's true
shy. Television changed the southern dialect. Southern speach a hundred
years ago bears no resemblance to Southern speach now.
Val - Considering
what replaced it you got a good deal - I was watching a programme about
Nixon's China deal and there was an interview with Willaim Buckley - he
has a real Southern Gentleman's accent! gorgeous.
shy - Bye Celeste
Stacey - Bye, Cel
Cam - And I just
completely misspelled speech! LOL Bye Cel
Pink ants - byebye!!!
Piper - Bye Cel!
Cel - Ladies, it's
been great. Have a good weekend and hope to talk to you this evenng or
at least some time during the weekend.
Val - cya Cel have
a nice Brunch
Cel - Thanks Val.
Bye everyone
Cel - logged off.
- 10/2 at 2:18pm EST
Piper - That reminds
me, I'm hungry too, so I think I'll head out.
shy - Bye Piper
Pink ants - byebye!!
Val - cya Piper
Piper - This has
been a great debate! Talk to everyone later. Bye
Cam - Bye Piper!
Piper - logged off.
- 10/2 at 2:19pm EST
Stacey - Bye Piper
shy - What did you
say about using your idea for the next chat Val? I am afraid I missed it.
Stacey - I need to
go buy foo (I have 3 twelve year olds here, and I haven't been grocery
shopping)
Val - I think we
should ask JAK is BJ set on any world that she has previously written about
- possibly continuing the debate on the board - that would be cool.
Stacey - that's buy
fooD
Cam - Man, if we
use this topic for the next chat, I gotta do some major rereading! LOL
shy - Ahh Stacey!
And they haven't died of hunger yet?
Cam - bye Stacey
Val - um if I did
have an idea I forgot about it!
Stacey - Me too Camby.
But at least we'll have all week
shy - Bye Stacey
Val - I'm surprised
you're still alive - have fun Stacey
Stacey - LOL Shy.
they're wasting away
Stacey - Thanks Val
Stacey - Bye
Cam - Wasn't it comparisons/differences
between all the futuristics, including Shield's Lady and SSF? Or something
like that?
Stacey - logged off.
- 10/2 at 2:23pm EST
shy - The linguistic
inconsitencies and how it relates to all of the future books! Particularly
the curtain books.
Pink ants - if we
do that topic, i will have to read way too many books!
Val - we could continue
on with it, the similarites between the different worlds. or iro AQ how
come no h/h meets or even mentioned by another one - it isn't that a big
world Regency England.
shy - Ok Cam. That
is a much better way to put it. Can I write that down. Or better yet you
can post it on the bb
Pink ants -
