And there's a thrift store next to it. You'll have to go up the road until it's one way houses and shops separating the carriageways then go back down, as it's on the southbound part of the carriageway

Val - Yeah, but they had been isolated for over 200 years. Linguistics amongst over things change a lot over that period of time. That's why there's a saying that the US and UK are divided by a common language. The US in particular do not understand UK slang.

Ann - Val, I think they are on the same planet as teh Flower Colony. There are numerous references in teh FLower books to "unexplored areas" and I got the impression those areas are quite vast, so it is possible they can be on teh same worls without contact w/each other. That would account for the similiarites, but no direct references.

If you say that the stories are set on different worlds with a shared common ancestry but been out of contact for at least a couple of hundred years. You can't have both cultures using the same slang or naming things the same. It's not consistant that's not what would've happened.

shy - My dh was telling me the other night about a book that said the southern dialect was the equivalent of Gloustershire language in the 1600's. That it was stamped out in the part of England while we southerners we retained the dialect.
