A personal note, Jayne, as one of my girlfriends pointed out to me that our archaic Southern manners sometimes offend people. I hope I didn't "yes, ma'am" you into uncomfortability by calling you Ms. Krentz and also hope I can take the liberty of being on a first-name basis with you.
My friends and I really enjoy your books. In addition to the wit, the depth of character, and the great plots, one of your greatest gifts is that of portraying healthy relationships between people. I thank you for keeping family important and your portrayal of persons with non-heterosexual lifestyles. You are so right when you comment that it is admirable when any two people make a commitment to each other. Something we all should try harder to live by.
I also want to thank you, particularly in light of your more recent books, for narrowing the gap between the hero and heroine's sexual experiences prior to meeting one another. We women live in a time where our relationships with the men in our lives is much more equitable, our needs for them and from them quite different than before, when many women just don't need a man for financial support. But as always, we need their spiritual support, their respect, and such. I have found that shared values, particularly through lifestyles chosen, are very important. I see this as a serious point of contention (as well as resentment) in relationships around me when the man and woman have had different levels of sexual experience. One is, literally, holding the baggage of their partner's, especially if one's own baggage is light to nonexistent. So thanks for being one of the few writers who doesn't make me go through hearing about the 1.5 million women the man has already slept with but always ends up with the young innocent.
There's a lot more good stuff to say about your work, but I'll save it for another day! :)
