While I agree with everything you have mentioned about relationships, there is something I felt needed to be added. It is something in which I believe wholeheartedly.
In college and in fact in my city the word slut is used to characterise someone who is easy - in a mainly platonic way to a large extent because we are not yet so free, it is supposed to be an insult but I really dont understand how it is so. This shame on having desires and working on them independently and freely is something which reeks of chauvinism - a man having a lot of sex will be stud and is to be admired yet a woman who has a "colourful past" is not. Dont mistake me, I am not advocating promiscuity, what I am saying is that no man has the right to dictate my choices in life and if the girl who is being called so is happy with her choices, I for one will always support her.
That somehow came out sounding very cliched. I just feel this need for virginity and believe you me in India this need is alive and kicking to use some more cliches, is a product of the male insecurity and they need some therapy. And woe betide those who think to stone Mary Magdalene in my presence.
