JoJay,
Speaking as someone with books dating back to the early 1970's, I can say you do need to preserve these books NOW to prevent them from being destroyed. I have hundreds of books with fading, brittle pages, and I could kick myself for not taking better care of them. Contact someone in the rare book trade for advice on how best to take care of your treasures.

As for the Guinevere Jones series, the reason they are so expensive is three fold:

1) They were written by Jayne. *->
2) The initial release was quite small, and the books didn't go into any additional printings.
3) I seem to recall hearing Jayne say there were no plans at this time for the books to be reprinted.

These three things put the books in the rare and highly collectible category, and that is what drives the price so high. Also, you have fans who will willingly pay ANYTHING to get their hands on a series of Jayne's books.

(who happens to have this particular series on her bookshelves. hehehehehe)
