Social worker Philadelphia Fox has recently been willed
an important block of shares in Lightfoot Industries, the joint
business of two rich, powerful families. And they want them
back. But since Phila blames the families for the recent
death of her best friend--the illegitimate daughter of one
of the founders--she needs some answers before she makes
any decisions.
Not that that will stop the family from trying to convince
her otherwise. They send in handsome Nick Lightfoot, the
prodigal son, to convince her to return the shares to the
family. The two are instantly and passionately attracted to
each other. Several of the love scenes deal with Phila's
terrible fear, and the process of Nick coming to understand
and accept that fear.
Phila wants Nick, but she has to believe he wants her for
herself, not her shares in the company. Nick must convince
her of his intentions, not an easy task considering how his
family is treating her.
At the same time, she must make certain no one learns the
secrets of her past. But as the past becomes the present,
Phila finds herself in danger, and Nick learns of her secret.
Will their relationship stand the truth?
This is my favorite JAK contemporary novel yet. The
dialogue between Nick and Phila is powerful, rich and at
times hysterical. These two characters are so well defined,
that learning who they are as you read is effortless. All
of Jayne Ann Krentz's heroines are strong, intelligent and
independent, but on top of that, Phila has a rough edge that
allows her to say things most of us would think, but never
say. It makes for a very interesting character!
The combination of romance, humor and suspense makes Golden
Chance a story you won't be able to put down. This is
definitely a keeper!
